The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 29 June 1897
Jim Cook, an 18-year-old boy, was drowned in a mill pond at Longtown, Yadkin
county, Sunday, while in bathing. It is said that he was drinking before going
in the water and got beyond his depth.
