Yancey County, NC - William S. Baker Cemetery BAKER (WILLIAM S.) CEMETERY: Location: About three miles west of Burnsville turn onto Bakers Creek Road and go about a mile and turn on first road to the left. Go a short distance and you will see a driveway turning right up a steep hill. Follow this road to the top and take the right hand driveway down to a shed. Cross the fence here and walk a short distance into the trees to the cemetery. Condition: Needs some clearing of fallen branches Graves are marked with fieldstones and has been reinforced with cinderblocks. No tombstones but said to be buried here by family members are: 1. William S. Baker, Born ~ 1845 – Died before 1916; (S/o Tom & Eliza Gardner Baker) William & Mary Ann were married Feb. 7, 1867 2. Mary Ann McCanless Baker, Born 1834 – Died 2-12-1916, D/o David & Nancy Young McCanless; 3. Matt McInturff, S/o Clayton R. & Eliza Jane McCourry McInturff. Matt and Emma were married Dec. 13, 1902 4. Emma Cordelia Baker McInturff, Born March 26, 1871 – Died March 30, 1939 at age 68 years, 4 days of Apoplexy. W/o of # 3, D/o of # 1 & 2 5. Child’s grave 6. Child’s grave – these are thought to be children of Matt and Emma.
