Yancey County, NC - William K. Byrd Cemetery BYRD (WILLIAM K.) CEMETERY: From 19E, 3 miles west of Burnsville turn onto Jacks Creek Road and go to Jacks Creek Baptist Church. In back of this church is a cattle gate. Go thru this gate and out thru the pasture, look up to the left on a ridge and you can see the stones. CONDITION: Poor, some stones overturned 1. Nathan Deaton, June 16, 1827 – Oct. 2, 1906 “Peaceful Rest” 2. Sarah Ann Letterman, Oct. 14, 1878 – Nov. 9 1923 3. William Kimsey Byrd, Pvt. Buncombe Cty, 3 NC Militia War of 1812 – May 21, 1778 – Feb. 8, 1862 4. Stone overturned and unable to read - possibly Elizabeth “Betsy” Williams Byrd, Born 1784 - D/o Mary W. Williams, W/o # 3 5. William K. Byrd, May 3, 1826 – Jan 11, 1911 “He bore the cross, He wears the crown” 6. Mary Byrd, Oct. 26, 1829 – July 6, 1902 (This stone was listed on the 1939-40 WPA Survey but it apparently was one of the overturned stones that was not readable now) At least 6 graves marked with fieldstones or indicated by sunken areas. ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
