Yancey County, NC - Wheeler-McMahan Cemetery ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHEELER-MCMAHAN CEMETERY: In the Pensacola area, turn onto Cattail Creek, go to Rocky Fork Lane and go about a mile, turn right and cross the creek. Walk down a little lane a short distance, cemetery is located just below the road on the right. Old remnants of fence posts and rocks visible from lane. This is near the Robert Henry McMahan old home place. (Long abandoned) 1. The only identifiable marker was a rock with “C L W Age 46 Y” scratched on it. (This possibly is Clarissa L. Wheeler, Granddaughter of Rhoda Ray Wheeler and daughter of Hiram & Clarissa Elkins Wheeler) Said to be buried here are: 2. Rhoda Ray Wheeler, Born ca. 1807 – Died after 1880, ca 1885, Daughter of Thomas S. Ray, Jr., and Ivey Hensley Ray. 3. Infant of Dave Hughes, 4. Infant son of Ragan & Nancy McMahan Wilson – 10-18-1916 5. Infant son of Robert Henry & Lilly Nanny McMahan – 4-11-1914 6. Infant son of Robert Henry & Lilly Nanny McMahan – 4-25-1915 Note: Some of this information was from Charles Hutchins Cemetery Book – 1977 Frances Higgins substantiates this. Her Mother told her that Rhoda Wheeler and whose children were buried here.
