YANCEY COUNTY, NC - CEMETERIES - Webb Cemetery ----¤¤¤¤---- Located at the end of North Bend Road, 1 mile above North Bend Church. Follow this road to the very end, go thru gate and around/down the hill thru a pasture, then up the next steep hill to very top between the Grove Hollow and the River Road. The cemetery is located on the right in a large grove of trees. This is referred to as the Grove Place. Condition: Poor - This property has been and still is being used as pasture with cattle roaming thru the cemetery, therefore knocking down and probably trampling the stones into the ground. No engraved markers. Fieldstone are scattered around on the ground, only a few are upright. There are a large number of unmarked and unidentified graves. James Byrd states that when he was there about 1955 there seemed to be many more distinguishable graves. He also thought there might be two separate cemeteries, one being further back in the woods but very few stones were visible. Said to be buried here are the following: 1. Wilson Webb, b. ca. 1808 (72 in 1880 census) - d. after 1880. 2. Mary Ann Webb, b. ca. 1815 - d. after 1880, 3. Mack Webb, who was killed at Relief. 4. Leonard Presnell, 1st husband of Mary Bennett Also said to be a large number of baby graves. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
