YANCEY COUNTY, NC - LETTERS - Charles Avery Byrd Obituary --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- CHARLES AVERY BYRD Charles Byrd, a son of Wm. and Elizabeth Byrd, was born in Yancy County, North Carolina, July 12, 1802; and died at his home on Jacks Creek in said County Feb. 11, 1891. He was married to Miss Jane Hampton, a daughter of Ezekial and Susan Hampton, in 1829, with whom he lived happily for 67 years. He leaves 2 brother, 6 sisters, 9 children and a loving wife to mourn their loss. He was for many years an official in his native county and was very faithful to that committed to his trust. Bro. Byrd joined the Methodist Church in 1838, but was not converted until 1865, from which time he lived consistently. Uncle Charlie was very active and strong for a man in his 89th year. He got a fall during the winter from which he suffered a great deal and which resulted in his death. The writer visited him several times in his affliction and talked with him about his prospect for a better world, and he always gave satisfactory evidence of being ready and willing to die when it was God's will to take him. He loved to hear singing and praying. May God bless the aged and afflicted wife and comfort the bereaved children and friends, and save them all in heaven in the end. J. A. Sronce, P.C.
