Hensley --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Wilhoit, Yancy County, Feby 6th 99 (1899) McD & Miry Hensley Dear Brother & Sister. I again take the opportunity of writing to you. I wrote to you Since I received your letter and has been anxiously waiting to hear from you but has not heard from since. Would be much pleased to get a letter from you. I wrote to you to tell me about the water, the Storms, the Timber, the Chances to get work. Stock & farm tools & milch Cow, Bacon & Beef or meats & grain, Corn & wheat So that a man like me could get a Start to live & what it would cost to buy land & other things Such as I would have to have if I was to go to Your Country and what farm tools Suitable to Begin with would Cost Me & what a team of horses Suitable for farming would cost Me & how far I would have to Bring lumber to build a house & if I could get up things to Start to live in Your Country pretty handy & readily So that I could stay there. I think that if I was in Your country I could make a living better than I can here in this cold Country. What do you think about it. Supposing that I could get there with a Small family. Some of them grown and had five or six hundred dollars to Begin with to fit myself out for land, Stock & Provision. Do you think that I could get a Start with that chance. So that I could live in Your Country. Have you got Springs or wells for watering purposes. Is the later lime or free stone. I would want about 320 to 640 acres of land. Could it be had Readily if so I would like to have you See around for me & tell what I could do or less amt say 160 acres. I want to go to Some new Country and thinks that I would like to come to Your Country. Tell me about the chances to get timber land & and how far you live from the Rail Road & the Prospects of a Rail Road through your part of the country. Now you know better what I would have to have to get a Start in your Country than I do. Please write the situation of every thing the school the churches the schools the Society the business is your country thickly settled up. The farm products the Mills the vegetables such as garden vegetables fruits such as apples peaches Potatoes & C is there any Malariel fever or Sickness. how about the roads are they good or marshy to the Rail Road. You must be shure to answer my letter. Give yourselves time to know what you can do about land &c before you write. There is three good family wanting to go from Yancy to your Country & mine is one of the worst of them. I am in Earnest about going if I can get a home in your Country & would like to get near my own people & acquanitances. So that I would not be a Stranger to all & all Strangers to me. Miry I have written you about father's & mother's Estate. Their old home was Sold Jan 98 & on 12 & 18 month's time & will be Collected by the 1st of July & a Settlement made with heirs I am the administrator & will see that you and all the heirs get their Share of the Estate. There is a Settlement to be made before I can pay any of them. I want you to Send me an inventory of what father give you when you was here. Make a list of it & what it was worth & be Sworn to the list & have your County Seal put on it & Send it to me by the first of May So that we can settle with you as well all have to Show what we have had from father So as to get an Equal Share from his estate when I get all the money collected and the Settlement made So as to find what is due to Each heir then I will Send you all the money that is due to you. I think I will be Ready the 1st of July to send Your fill Share of the whole Estate. So be contented & I will attend to the matter promptly at the earliest possible time. I will write to you again before July & make arrangement about sending your money & getting your Receipt &c. I have that Confidence in you and Mack that you will give me an honest history of Your Country & look me out a home as Convenient as you would for your Selves. I want to See you all very much. If I had money to Spare I would come to your Country this Spring but with the view of Moving I will have to venture and not go to the Expense of going untill I move. Tell Dal Byrd I was truly glad to hear from him. Will write to him Soon this leaves us all tolerable well hoping this will find you all well write to me Soon.
