YANCEY COUNTY, NC - LETTERS - Charles Byrd to Goodson McDaniel and Myra Hensley --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- North Carolina May 25 Yancey County 1870 Dear Son & Daughter I embrace the present opportunity to drop you a short note to let you know that I have not forgotten you and to let you know that we are all well as usuel ever hoping these lines may reach you & find you the injoyers of good health and doing well and we are anxious to hear from you for I have not had a word from you since last January. I was truly glad to know you was well at that time I wrote to you a few days before I Rd your letter and has had no Answer yet So I concluded to write again and tell you that we all want to see you the worst we ever did in our lives. I have no good news to communicate to you we are gitting along as well as could be expected we are done planting corn & hav got one field worked over Corn looks vary well at present & I never saw a better prospect for wheat in Yancy Corn & Bacon is as plenty as common corn is worth 60 cts per Bushel Bacon 15 cts per pound W. T. Byrd is at home now & hav been for a few weeks he was thrown from the cars and broke both his armes they are gitting well again he will leave to return back in a short time he was running from Nashville Tenn to Hickman Ky he has been out to see E. K. found him well. Uncle Vincent Honeycutt is dead he died 5 inst with consumpson he lingered & sufered a great deal before his death Your Grandmother is as well as She has been for a long time Times is hard money Scarce & taxes high they cads and loyal leaguers is beginning to hang down their heads for they believe theis doom is fixt and that they will be hurled from power next August and we hope for better times when they git out of power well little George Maryetter and Charles Byrd Shff grandpa sends you howdy and his best love to you all tell ma to kiss Charles 3 times for him for he wants to see you mighty bad.
