YANCEY COUNTY, NC - LETTERS - Charles Byrd to Goodson McDaniel and Myra Hensley --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- North Carolina December 23 1870 Yancy County Dear Son & Daughter This morning finds us all in as good health as common. Your Mother has been un well but is better now & I fell off the hourse and got hurt but I am going about ever hoping these lines may find you all injoying good health & doing well. We have been looking for a letter from you along time but has looked in vain. We fear there is Something the matter for I have wrote to you and has had no answer yet I hope you have not forgotten us. I am very anxious to hear from you for we have not forgotten you. We all do want to see you all the worst we ever did in life but do not know whether we will ever have the pleasure of ever seeing each other in this life but if we never meet each other in this world of sorrow & trouble let us prepare to meet in a better world than this where sorrow and trouble will be no more. I have nothing new nor interesting to write. We have fine crops of corn wheat rye & oats this year but the hogs has died a sight of pork is worth 8 cts & scarce at that. Times is hard, money scarce & taxes high. We got a letter from W. T. Byrd Byrd he was well & inst he is married and living Nashvill Tenn Did not no when he would be home. C H has been to Virginia he has come home. E. W. well & doing well. M. T. and Ange has a fine son a month old yesterday. Litha, W. A. and family is well. Nancy Jane says for you to take up Mary Etter & bring her up to see hr for she wants to her little Cousin Mary wager. There has been some deaths out here this fall. McHorton is dead Mont & Sam Rays killed Jack Brown. Sam is in jail. Mont escapted. Betsy Peterson had measles and had like to have died but has got up again the rest of the family is well. Christmas is almost here and oh how glad we would all be to see Mc Myra & all the little children all coming to see granpa. What a happy time we would have eathing big red apples. Grand Ma would kill a chicking & churn for she wants to see you all so bad and hear you tell about your new Country and how you are getting along and whether you have any wool to make you warm clothes for it is vary cold wether out here now. So write soon for we are vary anxious to hear from you. Give Squire John & family best respects, tell them to write to me & let me know how they are all doing and how they are satisfied with their new country and give the news generally and I will write to him again. I began to write 23d but did not finish till today 27, I am now in Burnesville to mail this letter & it is now snowing vary fast. We have had a few days of as cold wether as I ever saw.
