The Black Mountain Boys
The Weekly Standard of Raleigh, N. C.  of 29  May 1861

THE BLACK MOUNTAIN BOYS, a company of 90 from Yancey County, arrived here on 
Wednesday evening last. They are a fine-looking body of men. The officers are 
as follows: JOHN S. MCELROY, Captain; JOHN ROBERTS, lst Lieutenant; ROBERT 
JOHNSON, 2nd Lieutenant; S. BYRD, 3rd Lieutenant; B. S. L. DEYTON, 4th. These 
boys will do their full part in exterminated Old Abe's herelings.
