YANCEY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - James Jackson Anglin - August 16, 1938 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Obituary - James Jackson Anglin - Confederate Veteran - August 16, 1938 Transcribed by Marshall Styles, marshallstyles@yahoo.com Obituary, The Yancey Record, Thursday, August 18, 1938: Confederate Veteran Dies At Micaville Funeral Services For James Jackson Anglin James Jackson Anglin of Micaville, one of the oldest men in the county, and one of the few surviving veterans of the War Between The States, died at his home at 9:30 Tuesday morning. He has been in declining health for the past two years. Mr. Anglin was born on March 25, 1844 and during his early manhood joined the Confederate Army and served creditably. He later settled in Yancey County. He was married in 1865 to Hannah Eliza Gardner, and to them were born six sons and three daughters. All of these survive except the two oldest. Mrs. Anglin died in 1904. Funeral services were held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E.J. Harbison of Burnsville. Rev. R.E. Powell and Rev. Jesse Blalock assisted. Pall bearers were Bryan Griffeth, Bill Anglin, Bruce Anglin, J.Ben Griffith, Zeb Young, Ed Young, Albert Young, and Till Gouge. Burial was in the family cemetery at Double Island. Mr. Anglin is survived by four sons, George, Till and Tarp of Burnsville, and Zeb of Asheville' three daughters, Mrs. Charles Young [Laura L.] of Windom, Mrs. Lynn Gouge [Ida] of Micaville, and Mrs. John Murphy of Los Angeles, California; twenty nine grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. _____ Notes: (1) James Jackson Anglin was the son of John William Anglin and Rachel Evans Anglin, and the grand son of William M. Anglin and Elizabeth Austin Anglin; (2) Bryan Griffith = William Jennings Bryan Griffith who married Anna Lucy Anglin, granddaughter of the Veteran; (3) J. Ben Griffeth = 18 year-old John Benjamin Griffith, son of William Jennings Bryan Griffith & Anna Lucy Anglin; he married descendant Margaret Loucretia Banks; (4) Bruce Anglin likely is Bruce Kenneth Anglin, son of William Burgin Anglin, who likely is the pall bearer Bill Anglin.
