Transcribed by Marshall Styles, marshallstyles@yahoo.com Rites Are Held At Burnsville For Mrs. Banks Burnsville - August 15 (Special) - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Young Banks, 49, wife of P.M. Banks, chief deputy sheriff of Yancey County, who died at her home in East Burnsville Saturday after a short illness, were held at the Banks home Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. The Reverend Holland Black, pastor of the Windom Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. J.L. Reynolds, pastor of the Higgins Memorial Methodist Church of Burnsville, and the Rev. R.E. Powell, pastor of the Burnsville Baptist Church conducted the services. Burial was in Banks Cemetery at Bolen's Creek. Mrs. Banks was the daughter of Mrs. Laura Young and the late Joshua Young. She had been a faithful church member since she joined the church at the age of 12. At the age of 14, she was married to P.M. Banks and they had made their home in Burnsville since. Besides her mother and husband, she is survived by 11 children, Mrs. C.E. Dellinger of Asheville, Mrs. Kenneth Hensley of Micaville, Mrs. Dawson Briggs, Helen, Mary Martha, Frances, Margaret, Drate, Ruth, Esby and Wesley Banks, all of Burnsville; one sister, Mrs. Lonnie Banks of Burnsville; one brother, Drate Young, of Banks Creek, and three grandchildren. Active pallbearers were: Joshua, Jack, and Lee Banks, Rhea and Bascomb Penland, William Higgins, Joe Banner, and Clyde Bennett. The flower girls were: Misses Lucile and Lillian Banks, Misses May and Dora Young, Misses Joanna and Nola Penland, Mrs. Maphra Banner, Mrs. Maude Higgins, and Mrs. Jesse Craven. [Note: Mary Loucretia Young was born in Yancey County on 18 July 1885 to Joshua Young and Laura Jane Upright Young. She married Plato Marion Banks in Burnsville, Yancey County, on 14 September 1899.
