He was the son of the late William and Nellie Canipe Duncan. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Thomas Duncan; brothers, Hamer, Floyd, Albert, Willard and Millard Duncan; and sisters, Nolie Duncan and Mae Buchanan. A member of Young's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, he was the postmaster at Kona for 12 years, but spent most of his life farming applies and cattle. Survivors include his wife, Savannah Thomas Duncan of the home; a son, David Duncan of the home; sisters, Oady Gouge of Marion, Pearl Robinson of Bakersville, and Edith Tipton of Burnsville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Friday in Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Lawrence Glenn and Howard Buchanan officiated. Burial was in Bear Creek Cemetery. The family received friends from 6:30 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Gideons International or Hospice.
