BRUCE E. EDWARDS
BAKERSVILLE – Bruce E. Edwards, 69, died Friday, August 24, 2001. A native of 
Yancey County, he was the son of the late McKinley and Laura Jones Edwards, 
and husband of the late Ophie Edwards. He was a cab driver.
Survivors include five daughters, Helen Jones, Anita Edwards Beatrice Weist 
and Polly Mayfield of Morganton and Barbara Duckworth of Icard; One son, Doug 
Edwards of Drexel; five sisters, Zet Gortney of Johnson City, TN, Sidney 
Ayers, Mary Whisenant and Viola Whisenant, all of Burnsville, and Thelma Ayers 
of Bakersville; two brothers, Hubert Edwards of Burnsville, and Kenneth 
Edwards of Morganton; 10 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sunday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes 
Funeral Home in Bakersville. Rev. Roy Whisenant officiated. Burial followed in 
the Bailey Hill Cemetery. The family received friends from 10-11 a.m. Sunday 
at the funeral home.
