A native of Hampton, VA, she was the daughter of the late Shelton Moody Viar and Ruth Ann Elizabeth Kidd Viar, and wife of the late Ira Ernest Freeman. She was a homemaker and member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Doris Proffitt and Helen Ray of Micaville; a son, Rev. G E Freeman of Newton; a sister, Cora V. West of Newport News, VA; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a great great granddaughter. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Revs. G E Freeman and David Johnson officiated. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Autrey Cemetery at South Estatoe Baptist Church. The family received friends from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to: Hospice of Yancey County, P.O. Box 471, Burnsville, NC 28714.
