YANCEY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Gaw Jackson Sparks, 18 Aug 2002 ----¤¤¤---- GAW JACKSON SPARKS JOHNSON CITY, TN - Gaw Jackson Sparks, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002 in Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Charlie and nannie Randloph Sparks. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Zenna Hughes. Retired from Burlington Industries, he was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and member of Sinking Creek Baptist church, where he had served as deaconand Sunday School teacher. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Howell Sparks; two sons, Rev. A. Allen Sparks of Waynetown, IN, and Gary D. Sparks of Johnson City, TN; one sister, Chloe Beaver of Rock Hill, SC; one brother, Gay Cornelius Sparks of Micaville; sevven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sinking Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Reece Harris offiicated. Burial was at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
