YANCEY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Ben Thomas, 12 Dec 2003

NEWLAND – Ben Thomas, 67, of Greenway Lane, died Friday, Dec. 12, 
2003 at Cannon Memorial Hospital. A native of Yancey County, he was 
the son of the late Arnold and Pearl Woody Thomas. A construction 
worker, he had done mission work for 20 years and was a member of 
Highland Baptist Church in Burnsville.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Norwood Thomas of the home; 
daughters, Sandy McPeters of Burnsville, Wendy Daniels of Newland, 
and Audrey Hollifield of the home; sons, David Thomas of Nashville, 
TN and Andy Thomas of Hudson; sisters, Grace Allen and Hallie Mae 
Gouge, both of Blue Rock; brothers, Jim Thomas of Townsville, Joe 
Thomas of Raleigh, Johnny Thomas of Newdale, and Sam Thomas of 
Bakersville; nine grandchildren; and ##five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Elk Mountain Freewill 
Baptist Church. Revs. George Huskins, David Thomas and Sam Dale 
officiated. Burial followed in Elk Mountain Cemetery. The family 
received friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the church.
