CORA L. FORBES WHITTINGTON 

SPRUCE PINE - Cora L. Forbes Whittington, 70, of Hoot Owl Road, died Thursday, 
Sept. 15, 2005 at her home. A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of 
the late Stanley and Ethel Buchanan Forbes. She was also preceded in death by a 
sister, Charlotte Winters, and a brother, Cliff Forbes. She owned and operated 
Cora Lee's Beauty Salon for 25 years and was a strong supporter of Relay For 
Life.

Survivors include her husband, Willard P. Whittington; two sons, H.A. 
Whittington of Marion, and Lee Whittington of Burnsville; five sisters, Anna 
Livesburger and Shirley Marshall, both of Hanover, PA, Brenda Pitman and Jenny 
Pitman, both of Spruce Pine, and Linda Woody of Florida; five brothers, Don and 
Kelly Forbes, both of Newland, Ray "Al" Forbes of Bakersville, Rev. Howard 
Forbes of Spruce Pine, and R.S. Forbes of Marion; five grandchildren; three 
great grandchildren; and 23 nieces and nephews. 
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Windom Baptist Church. Revs. 
Charles Willis and Howard Forbes officiated. Graveside services and burial 
followed in Robinson Cemetery at West Burnsville Baptist Church. The family 
received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Yancey Funeral Service. Memorial 
donations may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, 
NC 28777.
