Index to "Rural and Village Cemeteries of Barnes County, ND" 2002--G. L. Barron This index contains all of the names that appear in the 345 page 8.5 x 11 inch volume. This new volume contains all of the marker inscriptions, and burials without markers taken from cemetery records for around 11,000 burials. When searching, be aware that a few of the names are followed by an asterisk, such as Johnson*. This indicates that the marker did not contain the surname that was assumed from a nearby family stone. The name could not be confirmed by cemetery records or by obituary indexes. A few are followed by a question mark, ?, to indicate that we were dobutful of the surname chosen. This book was compiled during the period April to October, 2002. It covers all known cemeteries, or burials, in Barnes County EXCEPT the four cemeteries close to Valley City. Those cemeteries NOT COVERED are No. 31 St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, No. 32 Hillside Cemetery, No. 33 Woodbine Cemetery, and No. 34 Maryvale Catholic Cemetery. At this time of writing, we estimate the burials in those four cemeteries to total 6000-7000 interments, and hope to soon compile a second Barnes County cemetery book of those four cemeteries. The first cemetery book for Barnes County, "Cemeteries of North Dakota, Barnes County, Volume 4", 1973 is still available from the publisher, Red River Valley Genealogical Society, PO Box 9284, Fargo, ND 58106-9284. It covers all of the cemeteries known to the compilers in 1973. It is still valuable tool as many of the entries quote dates taken from funeral home records, with full month, day, year, rather than the birth and death year inscribed on the stone. The RRVGS internet page quotes the current price of that book at $20, which probably includes shipping charges. The book that is indexed here, "Rural and Village Cemeteries of Barnes County, North Dakota" is published by the James River Genealogy Club, 651 4th St. N., Carrington, ND 58421, and is available for a $30 donation which includes shipping costs. Should you not find this volume in your local library, the James River Genealogy Club will furnish photocopies of specific pages for $1 (US) a page with a minimum $2 (US) charge. eMail - jamesrivergenealogy@yahoo.com. Be sure to indicate pages to be copied along with names, in case there are errors in this index. Customers outside USA should add another $1 US for extra mailing costs.
