Mr. and Mrs. James Beveridge Sr., McIntosh County, North Dakota Mr. and Mrs. James Beveridge were among the early pioneers of McIntosh County. They were born in Scotland and were united in marriage in 1866. They came to America in 1876 settling first in Pennsylvania, and then in Iowa. They came to McIntosh County with Mr. McGogy where both filed land in Lowell Valley. Returning to Iowa for their possessions he returned to Ellendale in 1885 where the family stayed until a house was constructed on their claim. They had some bitter experiences, some of which are detailed in the Jubilee Book. In 1890 Mr. Beveridge was appointed postmaster in Lowell, and held the position until 1900. This worthy couple were the parents of six children, Walter, James G., Robert who passed away in 1935, Nellie, now Mrs. J. N. McGogy, and two who died in infancy. Mr. Beveridge died March 1, 1902. Mrs. Beveridge lived in Ashley many years, and was known by all as "Grandma Beveridge". Next door to her lived "Aunty Williams" another grand old pioneer and the two enjoyed a wonderful friendship. Mrs. Beveridge passed away October 31, 1932 and was laid to rest beside her husband in the Ashley Cemetery.
