Jacob Bittner, McIntosh County, North Dakota He was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bittner and came to America at the age of 7 years in 1879, with a colony of others. They came to McIntosh County in the 80's and settled in Lowell Valley. In 1901 he married Paulina Becker and to them 11 children were born. They are Emma Goehring, Lodi; Walter, Lehr; Ida Ziegenhagel, Lehr; Alma Heinle, Lodi; Erna Strohmeier, Lodi; Amanda Orth, Minneapolis; Aaron, Lehr; Raymond, Stockton; Roy, Elmer and Norma at Lehr. Mr. Bittner was first engaged in farming and later in a store and implement business at Lehr. He was elected and served in the legislature, was clerk of the school board, and also served for many years as treasurer of the school board. He has always been considered one of the progressive leaders and builders of Lehr and vicinity, and has done much for its betterment.
