(East of Lostwood, North Dakota) Church & Cemetery Larry Tinjium provided the majority of the following information to me. The early day Catholic families who came to this area to homestead initially had to travel to Kenmare or Stanley for worship services. The congregation was organized about 1912 and services were held in the homes until the membership grew too large to accommodate them, then mass was held in the Elizabeth Traynor building in Lostwood. Records in the office of the Mountrail County Register of Deeds Office show that on June 1, 1914, the St Ignatius the Martyr Catholic Church purchased their property from The Northern Land & Town Company for $25.00. They soon after erected a church on this location in the townsite of Lostwood. Services were held every other Sunday with a priest coming from Stanley, ND. Services were discontinued about 1944 and the building was sold in 1952 to Einar Arneson who converted it to a dwelling. The parish maintained a cemetery about ¼ mile east of Lostwood.
