Marie Bertha Magoris was born April 6, 1872 at Groton City, Tompkins, New York 
to James Magoris and Eva Adelaide Carpenter. 

Found in the 1875, 1880 censuses living at Ithaca, Tompkins, New York: 
1875: James Magoris 24, Ella Magoris 21, Bertha Magoris 3, Geo Carpenter 24. 

1880: James H. Magoris 28, Eva A. Magoris 26, Bertha M. Magoris 8, George J. 
Magoris 2.  

Her parents left New York and moved to the the Dakota territory sometime 
between 1880 and 1900. 

Marie married John George Gunderson (b February 12, 1872 Newburg, Mitchell, 
Iowa, d February 10, 1924 Aneta, Nelson, North Dakota) on August 18, 1897 at 
Larimore, Grand Forks, North Dakota.  

The couple had 5 children who were all born at Aneta, ND: 
Doris (b August 18, 1898, d May 12, 1900 Aneta, N Dakota); 

Thelma (b January 21, 1901, married Lee Robertson Hill) d April 8, 1973 
Arcadia, Los Angeles, California); 

Alice (b September 23, 1902, married Charles Howard Maher, d November 4, 1984 
Bainbridge Island, Kitsap, Washington); 

Laura (b August 17, 1907, married Everett H Otterson, d June 11, 1984 Sparks, 
Washoe, Nevada) and 

John George (b May 16, 1910, d February 4, 1933). 

Mrs. Gunderson was postmistress at Aneta for 9 years,  having twice been 
commissioned as such by President Roosevelt.

1900: John Gunderson 28, Burtha M Gunderson 28, Emil L Gunderson 21, Anne 
Afofthus 20.  

1910: John George Gunderson 38, Bertha Marie Magoris Gunderson 38, Thelma 
Gunderson 9, Alice Gunderson 7 Laura Gunderson 3. 

1920: John J Gunderson 47, Bertha M Gunderson 47, Thelma Gunderson 18, Alice 
Gunderson 17, Laura Gunderson 12, John J Gunderson 9. *****

Found in the 1930 census at Pasadena, Los Angeles, California: Lee R Hill 33, 
Thelma Hill 29, Bertha Gunderson 58, John G Gunderson 19. 

Marie Gunderson died March 4, 1931 at Temple City, Los Angeles, California and 
is buried at the Silent Hill Cemetery, Aneta, Nelson, North Dakota. 

There is a Memorial for her at Find a Grave #47131256.
