He was born on October 25, 1895. On July 1, 1918 he entered the service and became a member of the Motor Corps at the University. He remained there until August 28, 1918 when he was transferred to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. A few days later he was ordered to Camp Mills, N. Y., where he remained about a week before going abroad. Private Johnson arrived overseas on October 9, 1918. He did not get into any battles, but was sent to Rittendorf, Germany with the Army of Occupation. On April 24, 1918 he was accidentally shot by the discharge of a pistol. He was laid to rest in a cemetery at Freie, Germany. Private Johnson spent his whole life on the farm, assisting his parents until he entered the service.
