LARSON was the son of Ole and Helen Gedestad of Petersburg. He was born at Houston, Minnesota on July 26, 1893. Private Larson was called to the colors on March1 28, 1918. He was sent from Lakota to Camp Dodge, Iowa, where he received intensive training for two months. He went overseas to France on May 1, 1918 and after further training there, he went into action at St. Mihiel on July 16, 1918. On October 1, 1918, he died for his country, killed in action at St. Mihiel. John Larson had lived at Petersburg since 1902 before entering the service. He has left His mark in the world as a gentleman and a hero.
