MATSON was the son of Charles and Dina Matson of Aneta. He was born in Ora Township, Nelson County on August 22, 1897. He responded to his country’s call on July 3, 1918 and received his preliminary training at Camp Humphrey, Virginia. He was transferred to Camp Merritt, N. J. on October 1, 1918. On October 7th he was transferred to Camp Mills, N. Y. Two weeks later, on October 21, he left for France. While in France, Private Matson was taken sick with Pneumonia and on November 11, 1918 he gave his life for his country and for Democracy.
