MORKEN was the son of Mathias and Oline Morken of Osago Township. He was born November 15, 1891. Private Morken entered the service September 21, 1917, and began his training at Camp Dodge. On December 1, 1917. He was transferred to Camp Pike, Arkansas, where he became a member of the Model Company. After four months of intensive training he was sent to Camp Merritt, N. J., and immediately was ordered overseas, arriving in France with Co. C, 2nd M. G. Bn., in July 1918. He went into the fighting line in August and took part in the Meusse-Argonne Offensive. He was killed in action at the Battle of Cheppy, on October 1, 1918. He is buried in grave number 101, section 54, plot 2, Argonne American Cemetery, 1232 Romane-sous-Mount-foucon, Meuse. Private Morken was a quiet and modest young man and a splendid soldier, being at the time of his death, in a special selected Company.
