C. Sand of Petersburg. She entered the service as a Red Cross Nurse on February 20, 1918, being assigned to her first duty in the service at Camp Custer Mich. On August 15, 1918 the call came for overseas duty and by Sept. 16th the convoy that Miss Sand crossed the Atlantic with war under way. In spite of the Influenza aboard the ship and the submarines in the danger zone, she arrived safely in Glasgow, Scotland on September 29th. She was soon sent on to France and when she arrived at her destination she was placed in charge of a ward at Mars sur Alleir where she remained until January 20, 1919. She was then transferred to Cannes, Base No. 93 where she had charge of a floor of 120 beds. Miss Sand left France on June 10, 1919, and arrived at New York on the 19th, where she was mustered out.
