BOY DROWNDS SUNDAY
Elias, 11 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Herman, 12 miles north-east of
Pettibone, while out in the pasture last Sunday evening driving by a neighbor
boy stopped at small pond for a swim.  Thinking he knew the bottom well, having
seen it dry many times, fearlessly jumped in.  Immediately the neighbor boy saw
that it was deeper than the Herman boy expected and that the Herman boy was in
distress.  Thinking of nothing else but running for help, he ran as fast as he
could to the Herman home and informed the father.  Before the father arrived
however the boy had perished and sank to the bottom.  Mr. Herman waded in and
succeeded in recovering the body.  Funeral services were conducted at the
Lutheran church in the New Home district Monday afternoon, - Pettibone Spectator.

Correction: Elias was 14 years old.
