Anna was the second of 10 children. She emigrated 1884 with her mother and older sister to Newburg township, Mitchell County, Iowa where her father was waiting for them. Family found in the 1885 and 1895 censuses living near St Ansgar, Mitchell, IA: 1885: Hans Andersen 32, Gina Andersen 30, Inga Andersen 8, Anna Andersen 6, Peter Andersen 4. Anna's parents moved to Mountrail, North Dakota about 1898. Anna is found in the 1900 census still living at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Ia with her older sister Inga and Inga's husband Samuel Ring: 1900: Sam N Ring 37, Inga C Ring 25, Annie Anderson 22, Clara Anderson 15, Olaf O Rustad 30. Annie was working as a dressmaker. After her brother-in-law, Sam Ring died in 1903, Inga, Annie and Olaf Rustad moved west to Mountrail, North Dakota. Anna married Peter Mahlum on June 1, 1904 at probably Spencer, Ward, North Dakota. The couple had 5 children all born at Spencer, Ward, ND: 1. Henry Jester Mahlum (born June 13, 1904, married twice, died August 12, 1970 Stanley, Mountrail, ND); 2. Melvin Godfred (born October 9, 1906, died March 30, 1950 Lowland, Mountrail, N.D.); 3. Alice Pearl Mahlum (born November 1, 1908, married Robert Anthony Lloyd July 23, 1938 St Paul, MN, died June 7, 2004 Longview, Cowlitz, Washington); 4. Glenn Arthur Mahlum (born October 30, 1910, married Gertrude Viola Spiegle September 10, 1938 Chehalis, Lewis, Washington, died January 12, 1999 Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona) and 5. Mamie Irene Mahlum (born February 28, 1912, died July 5, 1930 Minot, Ward, North Dakota. Family found in the 1910 census living at Ward, North Dakota: Peter Mahlum 30[31], Anna Mahlum 32, Jester H Mahlum 5, Melvin G Mahlum 3, Alice P Mahlum 1, Gunder Mahlum 28. Anna Susan Andersen Mahlum died of a heart attack at the young age of 35 years on April 3, 1913 at Spencer, Ward, ND. She was buried at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, Ward, ND. Obituary from unknown newspaper: "Anna, wife of Peter Mahlum, residing about 11 miles south of Kenmare, passed away at the local hospital this morning, the cause of death being heart failure. She was born in Norway, March 26, 1878, and came to America with her parents when about six years old. She was married in 1904 to Mr. Mahlum. To this union, five children were born, the youngest being six weeks old and the oldest eight years. The funeral will take place on Monday beginning with a brief service at the home at 11 o'clock followed by the funeral sermon at Our Savior's church, in Spencer township, at 1 o'clock. The Rev. E. R. Anderson, of the Danish Lutheran church will be in charge. The surviving parent and children have the sincere sympathy of numerous friends." Peter and Annie's youngest child, Mamie was just six weeks old when her mother died. Mamie was baptized before her mother's funeral and the basin of water that was used was set in the casket with her mother.
