Family research as of March 2012
Helena (Helen) Andersen was born September 27, 1886 near Meltonville, Newburg, 
Mitchell, Iowa to Hans Andersen and Gena Petersdatter. Helena was the fifth of 
ten children. Her siblings were: Inga Caroline, Anna Susan, Peder, Clara, 
Maria, George, Adolph, Nina and Selma Nora. 

Helena can be found in the 1895 census at Newburg, Mitchell, IA living with her 
parents and siblings: Hans Andersen 40; Genia 40; Inga 19; Anna 16; Peter 14; 
Clara 9; Helena 8; Maria 5; George 3; and Adolph 1 month. 

In 1898, she moved west with her parents to Stanley, Ward, North Dakota where 
her father planned to homestead farmland. 
Found in the 1900 census at Township # 159, Palermo, Ward, North Dakota: 
Hans Anderson 46, Gina Anderson 46, Peder Anderson 19, Helena Anderson 13, 
Maria Anderson 11, George Anderson 9, Adolf Anderson 6. 

Helena married Hans Husom on October 4, 1905 at Ward, North Dakota. Hans had 
emigrated from Norway and was a farmer. The couple had one daughter, Gladys 
Irene Bertha Husom (born December 22, 1906 at North Dakota). 

Found family in the 1910 census living at Crawford, Mountrail, ND:Hans Husom 
33, Helen Husom 23, Gladys Husom 3. 

Hans and Helena bought 560 acres in North Dakota in the summer of 1928. 

Found in the 1920, 1925, 1930 censuses at Redmond, Mountrail, North Dakota: 
1920: Hans Husom 53, Helen Husom 33, Gladys Husom 13. 
1925: Helen Husom age 38. 
1930: Hans Husain 42, Helen Husain 43, Gladys Husain 23. 

Helen Andersen Husom died of leukemia at age 57 years on February 3, 1943 at 
Kenmare, Ward, North Dakota. She is buried at Our Savior's Cemetery, Ward, ND 
which sets across the road from the farm her parents homesteaded.
