Her father was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, July 1, 1852, and is of Dutch descent. Her mother, also a native of Lancaster County, was born August 5, 1860, and is descended from Lord Say, who formed the Saybrook Colony from England. Miss Altman was graduated from high school at Emporia, Kansas, in 1908, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Emporia College, in 1912. She thereafter took post graduate work at Columbia University, Paris University and the University of Madrid, and in 1924, was awarded her Masters degree from the University of Chicago. During her college career she held various class offices, and was made a member of Kappa Delta Pi. A resident of Nebraska for the past ten years, Miss Altman first came to Hastings as a teacher of modern languages which position she has held since. She was appointed dean of women at Hastings College at the end of her first year. Her professional associations include the National Association of Deans of Women, and the Nebraska State Association of Deans of Women, of which she was president in 1929. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings, and was recently elected to life membership in the Nebraskana Society. Miss Altman enjoys golf, tennis and hiking, and her hobby is the cello. Residence: Hastings.
