His father came to America in 1854, and died at Luxemburg, Iowa, December 1, 1880. His mother was born at Niederpalen, Luxembourg, June 26, 1826, and died at Luxemburg, Iowa, March 28, 1906. Mr. Andre taught in the rural schools of Dubuque County, Iowa, and in the fall of 1883, moved to Raeville, Nebraska, where he established a small store. In 1887, as the town of Petersburg was being organized, he moved to that community and has conducted a mercantile establishment there since. He owns a third interest in the Petersburg Telephone Company, having been connected with that organization since its organization in 1903. His marriage to Jennie Krier was solemnized at St. Donatus, Iowa, February 5, 1884. Mrs. Andre, who assisted in her husband’s business prior to 1903, was born at St. Donatus, December 20, 1863. Their four children are: Nick, born November, 1884, who married Margaret Heinz; Catherine, born in January, 1886, who died m 1928: Frank, born in July, 1887, who married Ann Gertrude Reisdorf; and Claire, born in February, 1889. All are engaged in the mercantile business at Petersburg. Mr. Andre holds membership in the Red Cross, is affiliated with the St. John The Baptist Catholic Church of Petersburg, and has been connected with every commercial organization in his community. He was a charter member of the Volunteer Fire Department, was treasurer of the village board from 1906 to 1910, and served as a member of the village board at various times prior to 1913. During the World War, Mr. Andre was a member of the Food Control Board. He acted as a member of the Board of Education from 1901 to 1911, serving as chairman from 1901 to 1905. His hobby is reading.
