Hon. E. Frank Brown, county judge of Buffalo County, Nebraska, is a native of 
Iowa, but has been a resident of Nebraska since 1888. He was born at 
Maquoketa, Jackson County, Iowa, July 29, 1866. He acquired an elemental 
education in the common schools of the state and prepared for college at the 
Jefferson Academy, entering the Iowa State university and graduating from that 
institution with the class of 1887. During vacations he read law, and after 
leaving college entered the law offices of Howard & Rose and of Zola A. 
Church. In April 1888, Mr. Brown removed to Kearney and was admitted to 
practice at the May term of the district court at that place. In the spring of 
1892 he was elected police judge of Kearney and served two terms, and in the 
fall of 1897 he was elected county judge, which office he now occupies. While 
attending the Iowa State university Mr. Brown acquired training in military 
tactics and was appointed captain of one of the companies of cadets. The 
training led him to take an active part in the formation of Company A of the 
Second Regiment, Nebraska National Guard, in May 1891, and he was commissioned 
as its captain. At the expiration of the first term of enlistment, in 1894, he 
withdrew from the company.
