Memorial services will be Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Rev. Michelle Reed officiating. Graveside services will be at the Overton Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Military rites will be held at the Church by the Kearney American Legion Post No. 52, Kearney V.F.W. Post No. 759, and the Nebraska National Guard Military Honors Team. Charles was born Jan. 12, 1932 in Lincoln to Robert and J. Esther (Labert) Beatty. Chuck’s father died at an early age. His mother then married Henry Bauer who raised him. Chuck lettered in track, basketball, and football, graduating from Holdrege High School in 1949. He joined the Army Air Corps on July 4, 1954 and was assigned the 82nd Airborne Division, flying Cessna L- 19 “Bird Dogs” as an aerial fire observer. He married Gertrude Carey on Oct. 30, 1954 in Overton. After the Army he returned to Lincoln and graduated from the University of Nebraska College Of Law in 1959. He moved to Kearney where he served as Deputy Buffalo County Attorney, a member of the Nebraska Aeronautics Commission, and practiced law for many years. Charles was a member of the Nebraska Bar Association for 50 years, and was instrumental in local service work with 12-step organizations since 1976. He will be remembered as an ever-loving son, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude “Gitch” Beatty of Kearney; sons, Jack (Janelle) Beatty of Kearney, Patrick (Karen) Beatty of Basehor, Kan.; daughter, Mary (Ernest) Brown of Kearney; sisters-in-law, Virginia Carey of Kearney, Mary Carey of Lincoln; granddaughters, Blossom (Bennett) Hinyub of Gulf Shores, Ala., Amanda (Willy) Burgos of Augusta, Ga., Madeline Beatty of Basehor, Kan.; grandsons, John Beatty of Kansas City, Mo., Shane Beatty of Lincoln and four great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his mother, father and step-father. Memorials are suggested to the Faith United Methodist Church or Boy Scout Troop No. 36.
