Gentleman Mortuary, Omaha, NE - Oct. 16, 2005 William Joseph Grewe, age 73, died suddenly Jan. 11. Funeral services were Jan. 14 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lyons. Fr. Michael Grewe officiated, assisted by Fr. Bob Eimers and Fr. Bob Irwin and other priests of the archdiocese of Omaha. Burial was in the Lyons Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Terence, Gerald, John, David and Brian Grewe and David Redding. He was born Apr. 29, 1909, at West Point to Meinolph and Anna Grewe and attended St. Anthony's School at St. Charles near Wet Point. He farmed at West Point until moving to a farm east of Lyons in 1956. In 1965 he retired and moved into Lyons and had worked as caretaker for the Lyons Cemetery the last seven years. He married Rose Ortmeier on Nov. 21, 1934, at St. Charles. She survives. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors in addition to his wife are five sons, Edmund of Tulsa, Okla., Gerald of Anchorage, Alaska, Robert of Denver, Colo., James of Gering and Fr. Michael of Hartington; one daughter, Kathleen Redding of Lexington; 17 grandchildren; four sisters, Theresa Hagedorn, Lila Strehle, Bernadine Rief and Magdalen Rief, all of West Point; and one brother, Arthur Grewe of West Point.
