Services were March 13 at United Parish of Elkton with Pastor Brian Grover officiating. Burial was at Elkton City Cemetery, Elkton S.D. Marlen was born August 23, 1934, to Harry and Elda (Bergman) Anderson at Elkton, S.D. He grew up and attended school in Elkton. Following the seventh grade he went to work for Louis Peterson digging wells. He also worked for E.B. McKeown in an automotive garage. He married Nette Eva Wood June 14, 1955, at Slayton, Minn. Following their marriage, the Andersons made their home in Elkton. Marlen worked as a sectionhand for the Chicago Rock Island & Pacific Railroad for ten years. He later worked for Knutson Pipe covering. Marlen restored the locker building on Elkton's Main Street, installed sewer and water lines, and operated his own backhoe business in Elkton. He also worked as a grave digger and self-employed mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Nette, Elkton; four daughters, Sherri (James) Johnson, Brookings, S.D., Julie (Dean) Dendinger, Hartington, Reva Christensen, Casper, Wyo.; and Kristi (Lance) Palecek, Yankton, S.D., four sons Mark Anderson, Elkton; Timothy (Karla) Anderson, Volga, S.D.; Tony Anderson, Ward, S.D.; and Ronald (Denise) Anderson, Phoenix, Ariz.; 22 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Evelyn Dexter, Elkton, and three brothers, Earl Anderson, Albert Lea, Minn. Gerald (Sandra) Anderson, Elkton, and Duane (Joyce) Anderson, Aurora, S,D. Marlen was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one infant son and one infant granddaughter.
