This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== CEDAR COUNTY NEWS MAY 17, 1923 BOW VALLEY PIONEER DIED LAST SATURDAY ENGLEBERT BAUMAN, CITIZEN OF THAT COMMUNITY FOR 50 YEARS, PASSES AWAY Another pioneer of Cedar County passed to his reward last Saturday morning, when Englebert Bauman who has resided here for 53 years passed away at his home northwest of Bow Valley. Mr. Bauman was born at Diedon, Holland on April 30th 1840 being 83 years old at the time of his death. When he was thirty years old he came to America, coming directly to St. Helena, where he worked for his uncle, Mr. Arens for a short time. In 1871 he was married to Mrs. Herman Schulte, at St. Helena and during that same year he took up a homestead four miles northwest of Bow Valley. Here he spent his life, and it was here that he passed away after living to see the desolate frontier prairie homestead blossom and one of the finest farms in the county as a result of his untiring effort and loving care. He had always been a highly respected resident of the community and his friends there are numbered by his acquaintances. Mr. Bauman is survived by his wife; four sons, Anton of Wynot, Bert, Herman and Henry, who are farming near Bow Valley; one daughter, Mrs. Jos Bushkamp of Menominee and two stepchildren, John Schulte of Yankton and Mrs. Will Lockman of Menominee. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at ten o'clock at Bow Valley. Rev. Birnbach being in charge. Interment was in the Bow Valley Cemetery.
