Beacom, who died Saturday from burns and shock, were held from the Winters Funeral Home in Morningside Monday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. O.L. Levorson of Hartington officiating. Burial was made in the Morningside cemetery in Babyland. The tragedy which resulted in the infant's death took place at the Beacom apartment at the Sioux City airbase. The baby had been suffer- ing with a cold and his mother had been using a tea kettle on a hot plate at the side of the bed to steam the child to relieve the cold. The clothing on the bed caught fire from the hot plate. Two neighbors rushed to Mrs. Beacom's aid when they smelled smoke and they took the baby from the burning bed. The infant was rushed to a doctor at Sergeant Bluff and later taken to a Sioux City hospital where he died of third degree burns and shock. surviving are a the boy's parents and eighteen month old sister; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Olsen of Hartington. Among out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Thorpe and son of Waterbury, Mr. and Mrs. B.L. Carlton of Council Bluffs, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. William Olsen and sons, Franklin and LeRoy, Mr. and Mrs. L.G. Riibe and Mrs. Albert Nordby of Hartington; and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Strathman, Mrs. Duane Olsen and Mrs. Lowell Burkett of LeMars, Ia. December 1950 Cedar County News
