HELENA - Jerome Marvin Becker, 73, died Jan. 25. 1999, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D. Visitation was Jan. 27 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. A vigil service was held later that evening at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Helena. Funeral services were held Jan. 28, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St Helena, with Monsignor Cyril Werner officiating. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, St. Helena, with military services conducted by the Wynot American Legion Post #31. Pallbearers were Travis Becker, Todd Becker, Jason Becker, Sara Becker, Curtis Becker, Adam Becker and Kylie Becker. Honorary pallbearers were Louis Forinash, Fritz Bruening, Roger Bonertz, Richard Bruening and Leonard Wieseler. Jerome was born April 24,1925, to Albert and Anna (Leise) Becker in St. Helena. He grew up in St. Helena and farmed in the St. Helena area all of his life, except for his time in the U.S. Navy during World War II from June 1944 to July 1946. He married Mildred Schulte Nov, 23, 1949, in Bow Valley. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Helena, the St. Helena Social Club, a former Parish Council member, and a member of the Wynot American Legion Post #31. He was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife, Mildred, St. Helena; seven children and their spouses, Tim and Mary Becker, St. Helena; Tom Becker, Lincoln; Keith and Carol Becker, Emerson; Kevin Becker, St. Helena, Shirley and Joe Zimmerman, St. Helena; Cindy Becker, St. Helena; and Louise and Paul Vale, Arvada, Colo.; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Gerald Becker, Crofton and Lawrence "Dewey" Becker, Wynot.
