HELENA TOT LEONA BOLLICH, SIX YEARS OLD, DIES IN YANKTON AS RESULT OF BAD BURNS When she ventured too near a bonfire, little Leona Bollich, six year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bollich of St. Helena, was burned so terribly that she died in a Yankton hospital Thursday afternoon. The little girl was visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bollich at Yankton, at the time. While playing about the house, she was attracted by a bonfire of some papers which had been started by a neighbor, and in venturing too close to the blaze, her dress caught fire. She was alone at the time. Her screams brought help, but her clothing was all in flames, and when these were extinguished, it was found that she was so badly burned in places about her face and body that the flesh dropped away. Her feet were the only parts of her body to escape being burned as they were protected by her shoes. Medical assistance was summoned at once and the little girl was taken to the hospital, but nothing could be done to relieve her and death came at 10 o'clock that night. The little girl's grandmother was painfully burned trying to extinguish the flames. The little girl was in her first year at school and was a very birght and attractive child. The funeral was held at Crofton, Monday, Rev. Father Boscheck conducting the service. This is the second misfortune that has come to the Bollich family within the past six months. Last September 4, her 17 month old brother Elvin fell into a water tank and was drowned when found. The family have the sympathy of the community in their sad affliction.
