(Albers) Callaghan, 84, Yankton, S.D.; died Feb. 5, 2000 of natural causes at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D. Visitation was Feb. 7, at Kostel Funeral Home, Funeral services were Feb. 8, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton, S.D., with Rev. Lawrence Marbach officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton. Pallbearers were Scott Heimes, Todd Heimes, Brett Heimes, Ryan Heimes, Doug Hauger, Brian Hauger, Kevin Hauger, Craig Callaghan and Mark Hauger. Honorary Pallbearers were Nicole Stanage, Jennifer Strange, Erin Strange, Jordan Callaghan, Trisha Callaghan, Kristen Callaghan, and Katie Callaghan. Irene was born Feb. 10, 1915, to John C. and Agnes (Handorff) Dickes Fordyce. She attended school in Hartington and at Yankton High School. She married Louis Albers Feb. 13, 1936, in Fordyce. He passed away Oct. 31, 1975. She married Daniel Callaghan July 26, 1980, in Schuyler. He passed away Oct. 24, 1994. She worked at Johnson's Bakery for lO years and at VanDermeyer's Bakery for IO years. She was also a private cake decorator for many years. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton; the Catholic Daughters, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Merry Menders, the Extension Club, and the VFW Auxiliary serving as president in 1984-85. She is survived by two daughters, Marge (Roman) Lammers, Calimesa, Calif.; and Patricia (Donavon) Heimes, Columbus; and one son-in-law, Dan Zavadil, Pocatello, Ind.; two-step sons, Dennis (Pat) Callaghan, American Falls, Ind.; and Mike (Kim) Callaghan, Yankton , S.D.; four step-daughters, Diane (Norm) Obr, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Patricia Callaghan (Mike Teagues), Sioux City, Iowa: Mary (Jim) Gearde, Big Timber. Mont.; and Kelli (Mike) Stanage, Yankton, S.D.; five brothers, Ray Dickes, Gerald Dickes, Rev. Jerome Dickes, and Donavon Dickes, all of Yankton, S.D.: and Donald Dickes, Fordyce; five sisters, Leone Leise and Sister Rosaleen Dickes, both of Yankton, S.D.; Joanne Healy, Omaha; Delores Healy, Tujunga, Calif.; and Mary Lou Noecker, Hartington; 10 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both of her spouses, one daughter, Marilyn Zavadil; three sisters and two brothers.
