Dickes CROFTON- Madeline M. Dickes, died Nov. 12, 1998, at Sister James Nursing Home, Yankton, S.D. Visitation was Nov. 15, at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. Funeral services were Nov. 16, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton with Rev. Mark Merkel and Rev. Jerome Dickes officiating. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery, Menominee. Pallbearers were Jeff Gentrup, Brian Merkel, Keith Merkel, Chris Merkel, Luke Merkel, Richard Archen, and Steve Archen. Honorary pallbearers were Lorene Ausdemore, Mercedes Donner, Flavia Ausdemore, Margaret Donner, Johanna Steffen, Frances Steffen, Marcella Kathol, Adelaide DeBlauw, and Donna Guenther. Madeline was born Sept. 6, 1919, to John and Wilhelmina (Pinkleman) Kathol in Bow Valley. Madeline grew up in the Bow Valley area. She married Lawrence Merkel Feb. 4, 1942, in Bow Valley. After her marriage to Lawrence, they lived and farmed in the Menominee area. He died March 25, 1971. She married Raymond Dickes, May 13, 1972 at Menominee. They lived in the Crofton area until moving into Crofton in 1980. They later moved to the Cottonwood Villa. In 1997, she moved to Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton, S.D. Madeline was a former member of St. Boniface Church, Menominee, and is a present member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton; Christian Mothers; Ladies Guild; and the Crofton American Legion Auxiliary Post #128. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Dickes, Sister James Nursing Home, Yankton, s.D.; five children and their spouses, Kenneth and Barbara Merkel, Norfolk; Joyce and Robert Gentrup, Hartington; Dennis and Bev Merkel, Crofton; Dale and Marianne Merkel, Crofton; Dean and Karen Merkel, Kansas City, Mo.; two step-children and their spouses, John and Linda Dickes, Anoka, Minn.; Jan and Kevin Sivertson, Yankton, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; seven step-great- grandchildren; two brothers, Rudolph Kathol, Hartington; Urban Kathol, Hartington; a sister, Rita Goeden, Andover, Minn.
