Services were Feb. 1, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington with Rev. Stan Schmidt officiating. Burial was held at the St. Michael's cemetery, Hartington. Pallbearers were Gerry Stevens, Ellwin Jordan, Bill Yates, Max Rossiter, Tom Steffen and V.E. Rossiter, Jr. LaVerne was born March 24, 1906, to Dr. H.S. "Henry Samuel" and Martha L. (Murphy) Matthews in Yankton, S.D. LaVerne graduated from Yankton High School. She then graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing at Loyola University, Chicago, Ill. in 1928 with a degree in nursing. She married Dr. Francis P. Dorsey Oct. 29, 1932, in Yankton. He died May 4, 1959. She has lived in Hartington ever since her marriage in 1932. She opened the Cedars Nursing Center in 1966 and was the administrator for 12 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington. Survivors include one sister, Margaret (Ferguson) Foster, Sioux City, Iowa; two nephews, Terry Ferguson, Omaha, and Dr. Michael Gibson, Mesa, Ariz.
