This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== THE CEDAR COUNTY NEWS - July 17, 1952 Anna Goodwin rites Tuesday Suffers stroke on Thursday morning Wynot-funeral services for Miss Anna Mae Goodwin, 73, who died Sunday at Sacred Heart hospital where she was taken Thursday in an ambulance, were held here Tuesday afternoon from the Community Methodist church with Rev. Merton Burrus of Laurel. Sally Morton sang "The old rugged cross", and "Abide with me", during the service accompanied by her mother, Mrs. H.D. Morton. Burial was made in the cemetery at Wynot, under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home Pallbearers were Florian Backman, Fred Wuebben, Ed Morton, Arthur Driver, Lloyd Jones and George Bowder. Anna Mae Goodwin was born May 26, 1879 on her father's homestead a few miles south of St James, the daughter of Thomas and Agnes Goodwin, early settlers of this community. She had been a lifelong resident of this community except for a few years when the family lived in Vermillion where she received her high school education and musical training. In her earlier years she had a large music class traveling to the homes of her pupils with the horse and buggy. She was also very active in church work, being for many years organist and choir member of the pioneer Methodist church in St James and was a member of the Wynot Methodist church. Also in her earlier years she was often called by friends and neighbors for practical nursing and was always willing to help in the case of illness. Miss Goodwin, although in poor health for some time, had been feeling as Well and even better than usual up to the time she suffered the stroke on Thursday morning. She is survived by one brother, John; 7 nieces, Ms. Hazel Thompson who was brought up by the Goodwins as one of the family, Mrs. Mae Flom and Mrs. James Urwiler, both of Laurel, Mrs. L.P. Anderson of Yankton, Mrs. Arthur Munson of Cleghorn, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Jane Moreland of Norfolk, and Mrs. Burt Solberg of Volin, South Dakota. and one nephew, Harold Thompson of Laurel. Her parents and one sister, Mrs. Thompson, and one brother Ed, preceded her in death. Miss Goodwin acted as a mother to all of her nieces and nephew after their mother died when they were quite small.
