This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== BURNS FATAL TO WYNOT MAN Rites held for Earl D Gray Funeral services were held here Friday afternoon for Earl D Gray, 62, who died of burns received January 10, when he dropped a lighted kerosene lamp and flames spread over his entire body. He was taken immediately to the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls. He died there January 12, 1959. Mr. Gray lived a few miles northeast of Wynot. However the accident occurred at the home of Henry Schurmann. Mr. Gray was helping Mr. Schurmann who was injured when a tree fell on him. Funeral rites were held at the Methodist Church here. Rev. Schoessler officiated. Burial was in the Wynot Cemetery under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home. Pallbearers were George Bowder, Clarence Hochstein, Joe Wieseler, Axel Anderson, Steve Klug and C.H. Newman. American Legion Post 31 conducted military rites. Mr. Gray is survived by his step-father, G.A. Snowe of Wynot, a sister, Mrs. Jess (Myrtle) Gregg of Hartington, and two half brothers, Frank Snowe of Wynot, and Fred Snowe of Maskell. Earl Dean Gray, son of the late Mrs. G.A. Snowe and John A. Gray was born May 10, 1896. He was a farmer and lived in this vicinity most of his life. He was a veteran of the First World War. Persons attending the funeral from a distance included Mr. and Mrs. Millard Thompson, Tress Ferber, Doll Brown, Mrs. Iverson and Claude, Loyal Larson of Vermillion. Mrs. Fred Ritter and Harry of Spencer, SD., Mr. and Mrs. Jess Gregg Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Merle Gregg of Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Gregg, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gregg of Colorado, Mrs. Rex Ritter and Eldon Gregg of Lincoln.
