GREGG Martinsburg, NE - Willard E. Gregg, 71, of Martinsburg, Neb., died Thursday March 8, 1990 at his residence. Services will begin at 10:30 am Monday at Salem Lutheran Church at Ponca, Neb. with the Rev. John Plowman officiating. Burial will be at Silver Ridge Cemetery in Ponca. Graveside military services will be by the Martinsburg VFW Gasser Post 5435 and the Ponca American Legion Post 117. Pallbearers were Darrel Heald, Doug Russell, Willis Stading, John Book, Herman Schweers and Jim Meyer. Honorary pallbearers were Don Heald, Cal Harder, Larry Nelson, Tom Gregg, Loy Nelson, and Jim Pearson. Visitation will be 7 - 9 pm at the church Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 pm and again one hour prior to the service at the church Monday. Arrangements are by Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Mr. Gregg was born April 2, 1918, in Wynot, Neb., to Jess and Myrtle Gray Gregg. He grew up in the Wynot area and was a US Army veteran serving in World War II from 1942-45, obtaining the rank of sergeant. During this time, he was a rescue and recovery leader working and training dogs with dog sleds, and military police. He married Rose Gray Dec. 2, 1948 at Luverne, Minn., and they lived in the Ponca area where he farmed. Mr. Gregg was a former president of Silver Creek School District No. 19, and a member of the Martinsburg VFW Gasser Post 5435 and the Ponca American Legion Post 117. Survivors include: his wife, three daughters; Carol (Mrs. Norman) Tramp and Jerri Gregg of Crofton, and Bonnie Mrs. Dan) Ryan of Jackson, Neb., two sons; Mark and Michael of Ponca, four sisters, Sylvia Nelson of Maskell, Darlene Ritter of Lincoln, Myrtle Sieck of Columbus and June of Omaha. and four brothers, Rex of Newcastle, DeRoy of Ponca, Jess and Merle of Seattle, Wash., and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers; Eldon, Wayne and two infant brothers.
