Visitation was Jan. 2 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 3 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with Rev. William Sanderson officiating. Burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Hartington, with Military Services conducted by Wynot American Legion Post #31 and the Hartington VFW #5283. Pallbearers were Steve Pinkelman, Bob Bruning, Tim Bruning, Allan Rolfes, Jerome Pinkelman and Eugene Pinkelman. George was born Dec. 7, 1925, to Nick and Mary (Wiedenfeld) Jacobs in Kensal, N.D. He married Irene E. Promes Nov. 26, 1957, in St. James. George grew up in North Dakota and moved east of Hartington in 1940. He graduated in 1943 from Holy Trinity Catholic High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 and served until 1945 being stationed in Japan. Upon his return from the service, he worked in Omaha briefly at a packing plant. He then moved back to Hartington where he farmed on the Dixon and Cedar County line. George and Irene moved to the Wynot area in 1966 until November 1998 when they moved into Hartington. He was a former member of Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church, St. James; Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington; Wynot American Legion Post #31 and Hartington VFW Post #5283. George enjoyed woodworking projects, making things for his grandchildren and playing cards. Survivors include his wife, Irene, Hartington; three children and spouses, Marlene and Danny Wieseler, Hartington; Dennis and Jeri Jacobs, Newcastle; Alan and Maureen Jacobs, Wynot; and eight grandchildren.
