Kalin COLERIDGE - Mary H. Kalin, 98, died Aug. 25, 1999, at the Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge. Visitation was Aug, 27 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Coleridge. A vigil service was held later that evening at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Coleridge. Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 28 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Coleridge, with Rev. Stan Schmit officiating. Burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Coleridge. Pallbearers were Francis Steffen, Melvin Vanderheiden, Danny Vanderheiden, Russell Miller, Mike Dickes and Tim Dickes. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, Robert and Connie Kalin, Richard and Lori Kalin, Robert and Tami Miller, Christine Miller, Rhonda and Calvin Bartling and Ronald Miller. Mary was born Oct. 15, 1900, to Jacob and Henrietta (Sauerwein) Vanderheiden in Crookston. She married Joseph Kalin Oct. 12, 1926, in Laurel. He died Oct. 1, 1974. She was baptized at St. Francis Mission, Mission, S.D. She made her First Communion at O'Neill. She moved to Laurel in 1917. She attended Golden Prairie School north of Laurel. After her marriage, she lived in the Hartington-Coleridge area for the rest of her life. She has been a resident of Park View Haven Nursing Home for the past four years. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and its Altar Society, and the Willing Workers Club. Survivors include a son and spouse, Raymond and Elnora Kalin, Hartington; a daughter and spouse, MaryJane and Gene Miller, Coleridge, (raised by Joe and Mary Kalin since the age of five); 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers and spouses, Jake Vanderheiden, Laurel: Getty and Rose Vanderheiden, Laurel; and Ernie and Alma Vanderheiden, Sanborn, Iowa, three sisters and spouses, Johanna Steffen, Crofton; Lucina and Paul Gallagher, Evanston, Elizabeth and Norbert Dickes, Laurel; and many nieces and nephews.
