C. LANPHEAR, COUNTY RESIDENT FOR 55 YEARS, DIES Dies yesterday at the age of 79 following a long illness. Funeral to be Friday. Survived by five children. - A Daughter of early pioneer Couple. A resident of Hartington vicinity for 55 years, Mrs. Charles Lanphear, age 79 died yesterday morning, February, 17, at 8 o'clock. Mrs Lanphear succumed at the home of her daughter, Roy Barns and family, four and a half miles east of Hartington, with whom she had been making her home. She had been in ill-health, and complications of advanced years caused her death. Mrs. Lanphear was a pioneer woman of Cedar County, coming to Hartington vicinity when the territory was an open prairie. DAUGHTER OF PIONEERS Emaline Winterringer was born October 9, 1857, at Tipton, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Moses Winterringer, who were amoung the first settlers in Cedar County. At the age of 21 she was united in marriage to Charles Lanphear at Otto, Iowa. The young couple moved to the Hartington vicinity in 1882 locating a farm southeast of Hartington. Her parents came to Cedar County before that time. Mrs Lanphear has been making her home with her children. Five children were born to Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Lanphear, all of whom are living and are: Mrs. Wm. Kuhl, Sylvia of near Laurel; Mrs. Roy Barns, Ethal of near Hartington; Mrs. Herman Sommerfeldt, Ida of near Hartington; Bert Lanphear of Hartington; and Harry of Wynot. She is survived by one sister, Eldora Cory of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Roy Barns farm home east of Hartington and at 2:30 o'clock from the First Congregational Church with the Rev.
